Project 3: Remediation
For my first genre, I decided to do an email to the executive board of the College Democrats. I made sure to emphasize the fact that I was a new student. By doing so, I showed that I was a member of the audience the College Democrats are trying to reach when they are attempting to recruit new students. The executive board likely does a lot of communication through email, and this was the most professional way to contact them. My intent was to subtly emphasize that they should probably find some more effective ways of getting information out.
My second genre was a flyer, which I posted in my residence hall. This way, I can reach more students, likely new ones, who might not know about the club. There are lots of other flyers in the hall, it is the primary form of communication in them. They tend to be brief, so that’s what I went for in my flyer. People don’t want to spend a lot of time reading a flyer in passing. I actually wasn’t able to get the date for the first meeting, which was kind of important and therefore a pitfall of this particular genre I chose.
My third genre was an Instagram post. I put it on my private Instagram, so the diction of this genre was a lot more casual. My language was the same kind I would talk to a friend to, as it would probably be a little strange to get very formal on my personal account. I do have a few friends following who attend FSU who may be interested.
While talking about my project at dinner with a few people, I actually already got an acquaintance interested in joining, so I believe it was effective!
