The College Democrats at Florida State University is a political organization founded for young democrats to speak with likeminded people, learn from others, hear from different politicians, and spread their message. In this paper, I will examine how different texts function within the College Democrats, how they are used, and what they say about the organization. The College Democrats have a Constitution, which serves as a guideline for how the community functions. One goal of this paper is to discuss how this affects the way the organization is run, and what their meetings reveal about the organization. The organization also has multiple social media pages, which post often about different events its members can attend. They include pages on policies being put into place under our current administration, and how people can get involved and speak their mind. I also plan to discuss how members get involved in these events and protests, and how these are organized. The College Democrats also organize events such as voter registration booths to get even more people, even outside the organization, involved. I will discuss what actions are taken by the Dems to get involved in the Tallahassee community, how they get people interested, and how/if they make their events accessible to everyone. The overall goal is to discuss what these actions reveal about the organization’s members, and to show why they got involved in a politically charged organization like this one.
